I don't mind Jehovah and I don't mind God but I cringe (always have) whenever I hear someone use the term Jehovah-God, especially when they run the two words together. "Jehovahgod has truly blessed his people" (gag)

I Hate the Sound of the Word Jehovah
by cofty inlistening to clips of the latest manipulative video from the watchtower i realised how much i detest that word - jehovah.. sometimes i have thought it would be interesting to observe a meeting or part of a convention.
every time i heard that word i would be unable to stay in my seat.. i have a visceral reaction every time i hear it.
it stands for so much that i have contempt for.

We talk a lot about conditional friends on here
by cappytan inso, when people post about being shunned by their friends, i've heard several posters say things like, "their friendship is conditional.
real friendships aren't conditional.".
i'm sorry, but that just isn't really true.. if you and i were friends, there are conditions.

I agree, pretty much everything is conditional in one way or another.
When it comes to JW's you not only have the usual conditions that one expects a friend to comply with (honesty, trust, kindness) you also must not disagree with their religious beliefs or even have a honest discussion about your true thoughts on that subject. You can be a true decent honest friend but if you don't hold their particular religious beliefs, you are eliminated from their life or at best, kept at arms length. The irony is, that they view themselves as being persecuted if their non Witness relatives give them a hard time about being JW's, yet they turn around and do the same thing themselves.

in my life-especially my 60 yrs spent believing in Watchtower. She has no empathy for the trauma some experience as they wake up and subsequently leave.
You were a Witness 60 years but your daughter never was one or did she leave early on?

Finding homes for the former 'bethelites' and 'special pioneers'
by Esse quam videri insince the liberal government has been elected in canada, it seems that people are looking to the future with a little more optimism and hope.
it is only human nature that with change, we would think that the change would be for the better.
the courts have ruled, in canada, that it is unconstitutional to deny the homeless the right to sleep in parks.

Simple, basic manners would be a good start
by stillin inthe witnesses are really challenged socially.
in their own little world, they seem oblivious to the niceties of saying thank you or that they are sorry for some minor wrong.
these things help life go more smoothly in the real world, like a social lubricant.. i'm simply appalled at the fact that an elder's son, who was married more than a year ago, has never sent out thank you notes for all of the gifts that the congregation gave him for his wedding.

It's partly human nature and partly part of the cult mentality to take friends for granted when you always have a veritable smorgasbord of people available to fill out a crowd, whenever you need one.
JW's typically have a congregation of people available for whatever event they put on. Many don't realize or maybe have simply forgotten what it is to have seek out and make friends from scratch as well as keep them. That's why they are often so inclined to toss you away if you simply stop attending their meetings. There's always someone else in the crowd to take your place.

I thought it was interesting how she mentioned that it was a huge crime for a Scientologists to search to Google search and read anything unfavorable about Scientology.
She also mentioned the Scientologist practice Shunning or "Disconnection" of anyone who leaves their organization.
